Box fan app
Box fan sound for sleep
Fan Noise puts a box fan on your phone. Box Fan plays a deep, even whoosh that loops without a gap or a click, at low, medium or high speed. It keeps playing with the screen off, a sleep timer fades it out, and it’s one of nine fans, free on iPhone, iPad and Android.
Box Fan at a glance
| The sound | Box Fan: a deep, even whoosh |
|---|---|
| Speeds | Low, medium and high. A faster fan is louder and a little higher, as a real one is, and the change glides |
| The loop | Seamless: no gap and no click where it repeats |
| Oscillate | In The Fan look, the fan’s head sweeps from side to side, and its sound sweeps with it |
| Sleep timer | 15 minutes to 8 hours, all night or a time of your own, with a fade-out |
| Screen off | Keeps playing with your phone locked, its controls on the lock screen |
| Free? | Yes, with ads, like all nine fans. Fan Noise Plus takes the ads away |
| Devices | iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or later) and Android phones and tablets (Android 7.0 or later) |

How to play a box fan on your phone
- In The Fan look, swipe to Box Fan, or tap All sounds and pick it.
- Choose low, medium or high speed.
- Set the sleep timer, or leave it on all night.
- Lock your phone. The fan plays on.
Why it sounds like a fan
A loop you can hear repeating spoils a fan sound. Every fan here loops without a seam, so there’s no skip or click to wake you at 3 a.m. Turn it on and its motor spins up; turn it off and it winds down. All nine are set to the same loudness, so trying another fan never makes the volume jump.
Not quite your fan?
Box Fan is one of nine fans, each at three speeds. White and brown noise are free too, and Fan Noise Plus adds 46 more sleep sounds, the mixer, saved mixes and no ads.
- Table Fan: soft and airy
- Desk Fan: close, gentle hum
- Modern Fan: smooth and bright
- Stand Fan: light, steady breeze
- Ceiling Fan: slow, low swish
- Vintage Fan: old metal rattle
- Mechanical Fan: strong, motor-rich
- Server Room: deep electronic drone
The sound without the draft
A real box fan blows air at you all night. If you only run it for the sound, a fan app instead of a real fan gives you the hum without the draft. Read how the sleep timer fades it out, or see everything on the Fan Noise home page.
Questions, answered.
- Is there an app that sounds like a box fan?
- Yes. Fan Noise has a Box Fan with a deep, even whoosh that loops without a gap or a click, at low, medium or high speed. It plays with the screen off and stops on a sleep timer, on iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Is the box fan sound free?
- Yes. Box Fan and the other fans are free, with ads, and so are white and brown noise, the sleep timer, night mode and all three looks. Fan Noise Plus adds 46 more sleep sounds, the mixer, saved mixes and no ads.
- Can I play the box fan all night?
- Yes. Choose All night in the sleep timer and the fan plays until you turn it off, with the screen off. Or set 15 minutes to 8 hours, or a time of your own, and it fades out when the time is up.
- Can the fan oscillate?
- In The Fan look, tap Oscillate and the fan’s head sweeps from side to side, its sound sweeping with it. Ceiling fans and server fans don’t oscillate.
