Fan noise with the screen off
Yes, Fan Noise keeps the fan playing with the screen off. Lock your phone and the sound goes on all night, or until the sleep timer fades it out, its controls on the lock screen and, on Android, in a notification. Leave the app open instead, and night mode dims the screen near black after 20 seconds.

How to play fan noise with the screen off
- Start a fan, or white or brown noise.
- Set the sleep timer, or choose All night.
- Lock your phone as you always do. The sound plays on.
- To pause or stop it, use its controls on the lock screen.
If you leave the app open
Night mode takes over while a sound plays: after 20 seconds without a touch, the player fades to slow moving air, dimmed near black, with the time left, and the ad banner leaves the screen. Touch anywhere to wake it. It’s on unless you turn it off in Settings.
When it pauses by itself
A phone call pauses the fan, and it plays on once the call is over. Pull out your headphones and it pauses rather than playing into the room.
No signal needed
The fans and white and brown noise are part of the app, so they play offline too: on a plane, in a cabin, anywhere. Set the sleep timer and the sound stops on time, screen or no screen. Everything else is on the Fan Noise home page.
