This policy explains what information Fan Noise (the “app”) collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the app on iPhone, iPad and Android, and to https://fannoise.app.

The short version

  • You can start without signing up. The app creates an anonymous account the first time you open it. You can save it later with Apple, Google or an email address, so your purchases and settings follow you to a new device.
  • The free version shows ads. They come from Google AdMob and the ad companies that compete through it, which collect some information from your device to show and measure them. On iPhone and iPad, they get your device’s advertising identifier only if you allow tracking when the app asks. Where the law gives you a choice about how ads use your information, the app asks you first, and you can change your answer in Settings › Ad privacy choices. See Ads.
  • No selling to data brokers. We don’t sell your personal information for money or give it to data brokers. Some US state laws call the ads’ use of your information “selling” or “sharing”; If you live in the United States explains how to opt out.
  • Analytics only if you turn it on. Crash reports are always sent, so we can fix problems.
  • Your data, your controls. You can download your data and delete your account from inside the app.

Who we are

FAMO Connect LLC, a Georgia limited liability company based in Tucker, Georgia, USA (“we”, “us”, “our”), provides the app and is responsible for your personal information.

Privacy Officer. Our Privacy Officer is responsible for how we protect personal information, including as the person in charge of the protection of personal information under Canadian and Québec privacy law. You can reach our Privacy Officer at privacy@fannoise.app.

Fan Noise is offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: what their laws ask of us is in If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland.

Age requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app, or older where the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to how your information is used (16 in some countries of the European Economic Area). It is not directed at children. See Children.

Information we collect

Information you give us

Account information

  • An anonymous account ID, created automatically the first time you open the app.
  • If you save your account: your email address and, if you choose, a password (sign in with email); or what Apple or Google shares when you sign in with them, usually your email address (which may be an Apple private relay address) and your name. Passwords are handled by our sign-in service provider; we never see them.

Messages to us

  • Feedback, problem reports and support requests you send from the app, with any screenshot you choose to attach, any email address you give us for a reply, the app’s version and your platform.

Your settings

  • Your consents (with the date and the version of the wording you agreed to), your answers to the app’s welcome questions (such as what you’ll mostly use it for and, if you tell us, what you’d like to be called), whether the daily reminder is on and its time, how far you got through setup, and the other settings and mixes you choose to keep with your account.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and app information: app version, platform (iOS or Android), device model and operating-system version, language and region settings, and your time zone. We do not collect your precise location.
  • Identifiers: your account ID, a random ID for this installation of the app, and installation IDs used by our infrastructure provider’s services. In the free version, the ads also read your device’s advertising identifier: on Android, its advertising ID; on iPhone and iPad, its advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking when the app asks (see Ads).
  • App integrity checks: to block fake or tampered copies of the app, it obtains an attestation token from Apple or Google and sends it with requests to our servers.
  • Server logs: when the app calls our servers, we log technical details such as your account ID, the time, the type of request and whether it succeeded. Our infrastructure provider’s request logs also record your IP address.
  • Crash reports: when the app crashes or hits a serious error, it sends a crash report (see Crash reports).
  • Analytics (only if you turn it on): which screens get used and where the app gets stuck (see Analytics).
  • Ads (free version): what Google AdMob and the ad companies it works with collect to show and measure ads (see Ads).

Information from others

  • Apple and Google sign-in: your email address and name, if you sign in with them.
  • App stores and our purchase-management provider: whether you have an active Plus subscription, your purchase history and renewal and refund status, including the store’s reason when a subscription or trial ends (for example, cancelled, or a billing problem), which our server logs keep as a code. We never receive your payment card details.

Information that stays on your device

Some information is kept only on your phone or tablet, such as how you last set the fan (its sound, speed, volume and sleep timer), the look you chose for the player, your choices about ads (kept by Google’s consent form), your answer to the tracking request (kept by your iPhone or iPad), and whether you have seen certain screens.

Your consents

You can review and change these in the app under Settings › Your consents. We record when you gave or withdrew each consent, and which version of the wording you agreed to.

Ad choices

Your choices about how ads use your information are made in Google’s own consent form, which the app shows where the law requires it, and changed in Settings › Ad privacy choices. See Ads.

Analytics

Analytics is off until you turn it on. If you do, the app sends usage information to our analytics provider: which screens are used, app opens and sessions, how far you got through setup, which offers were shown, and whether a purchase was started or made; when the app asked your device to show its rating prompt; the screens, cards and announcements the app shows by itself, when they came up or were held back, and how they were closed; and which notifications you open, whether notifications are allowed on your device, and whether you turned the daily reminder on or off. Analytics never includes your name, email address or account ID. It uses a random ID for this installation of the app, and our analytics provider works out an approximate location (such as your country and city) from your IP address. Nothing in the app depends on it.

Crash reports

Crash reports are always sent, so we can find and fix problems that could, for example, stop the sound in the middle of the night. A crash report contains technical information such as the error and where in the code it happened, device model, operating-system version, app version, free memory and disk space, and an installation ID. Some problems the app recovers from are reported the same way, by an error code only — for example, a purchase the store refused — and none from a device with no network.

Device permissions

The app asks your device’s permission before it sends notifications (for the daily reminder, if you turn it on). On iPhone and iPad, it also asks whether ads may track you, which decides whether they get your device’s advertising identifier (see Ads). You can change either at any time in your device’s settings. The app doesn’t use your camera, microphone, photo library, contacts or location. While the fan plays, your device shows its playback controls on the lock screen and, on Android, in a notification.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  1. Provide the app: create and keep your account, keep your purchases and settings with it, and restore them when you sign in on a new phone.
  2. Show ads in the free version: through our advertising provider, as Ads describes.
  3. Handle purchases: unlock Plus and restore purchases.
  4. Keep the app secure and working: verify app integrity, prevent abuse and fraud, diagnose crashes and errors, and keep the service running.
  5. Improve the app: understand which features are used (only if analytics is on) and read your feedback and problem reports.
  6. Support you: answer your messages and handle your data requests.
  7. Meet legal obligations: respond to lawful requests, keep required records and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not build advertising profiles of you ourselves, give your information to data brokers, or use it to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. What our advertising provider does with the information it collects is in Ads.

Our reasons for using your information

Show ads in the free versionIP address, device and app information, how you interact with ads, the advertising ID (Android), the IDFA (iPhone and iPad, only if you allow tracking)To offer the app free of charge, paid for by ads; your consent, where the law requires it (and always, for the IDFA)

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already happened.

Ads

The free version of the app shows ads. They are served through Google AdMob, the advertising service of Google LLC, our advertising provider. AdMob picks each ad from the ad companies that compete to show it (“mediation”): its own network, the other companies that bid through it, and these ad networks, whose software is in the app:

Ad companyIts privacy policy
Google LLC (Google AdMob)policies.google.com/privacy
Liftoff Mobile, Inc. (Liftoff Monetize and Vungle)liftoff.ai/privacy-policy
Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta Audience Network)facebook.com/privacy/policy
Unity Technologies (Unity Ads)unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy
AppLovin Corporationlegal.applovin.com/privacy
Moloco, Inc.moloco.com/terms-and-policies/privacy-portal
Digital Turbine, Inc. (DT Exchange)digitalturbine.com/legal/privacy-policy

To choose, show and measure ads, to cap how often you see the same one, and to prevent ad fraud, the ad software in the app collects information from your device and sends it to these companies:

  • your IP address, from which they work out an approximate location (such as your country or city);
  • device and app information, such as your device model, operating system, language, screen size and network type, and the app’s name and version;
  • how you interact with ads: which ads were shown to you, and whether you tapped or watched one;
  • your device’s advertising identifier: on Android, its advertising ID; on iPhone and iPad, its IDFA, only if you allow tracking when the app asks (Apple’s App Tracking Transparency). If you don’t allow it, they don’t get it, and ads are measured without it.

Each company uses this information under its own privacy policy, and may use it to personalize the ads you see, including, where you allow it, with information about you from other apps and websites. How Google does so is in “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services”.

Your choices.

  • Tracking (iPhone and iPad). The app asks once whether ads may track you. You can change your answer at any time in your device’s Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
  • Consent where the law requires it. If the law where you live gives you a choice about how ads use your information (for example, in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and in some US states), the app shows Google’s consent form before it shows ads, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings › Ad privacy choices (the row is there where the law gives you this choice).
  • Android. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your device’s settings.

If you don’t agree to personalized ads, you may still see ads, chosen from things like the app you are using and your approximate location rather than a profile of you.

Our website shows no ads and uses no cookies, analytics or tracking.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only as described here.

Service providers (processors)

These companies process personal information on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their services to us and require them to protect it.

ProviderWhat they do for usWhat they process
Google LLCHosts our servers, database and file storage (the screenshots you attach, and the sounds the app downloads); runs sign-in, app settings and app-integrity checks; collects crash reports; and, only if you turn it on, analyticsAccount and sign-in information, your settings, your messages and screenshots, server logs, crash reports, device and app information, and usage information if analytics is on
RevenueCat, Inc.Manages subscriptions and in-app purchasesYour account ID, purchase and subscription history, transaction IDs, device and app information, IP address
Google LLCEmail for support and data requestsYour email address and the messages you send us

Companies that act independently

  • Google LLC as our advertising provider, and the ad companies listed in Ads. They collect and use the information described there for the free version’s ads, each under its own privacy policy.
  • Apple and Google as app stores. When you buy Plus, you pay Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). They process your payment under their own privacy policies.
  • Apple and Google as sign-in providers, if you choose to sign in with them.
  • Apple and Google as device providers, for app-integrity checks.

Other disclosures

We may also disclose information:

  • If the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order, and to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • At your direction, for example when you share your data export.

What we don’t do

  • We do not sell your personal information for money, and we don’t give it to data brokers.
  • Apart from what the ad companies in Ads collect in the app for ads, we do not share your personal information with advertisers.

Where your information is stored

We are based in the United States. Our servers, database and file storage are in the United States. Our advertising provider and the other ad companies in Ads may process information in any of the countries where they operate. RevenueCat is based in the United States.

If you use the app from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States and those other places, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.

If you live in Japan. The service providers we entrust your personal information to (see Who we share information with) are in the United States, and the ad companies in Ads may process information in other countries where they operate. The United States has no comprehensive federal privacy law like Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information: personal information is protected there by federal laws for particular sectors, by the Federal Trade Commission’s enforcement against unfair or deceptive practices, and by state laws such as California’s. Each of these providers is bound by a contract that lets it use your information only to provide its services to us and requires it to protect your information at least as well as this policy does, and we protect your information as How we protect your information describes. To learn more about these measures, write to privacy@fannoise.app.

How long we keep your information

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy.

InformationHow long we keep it
Anonymous accounts (never saved with Apple, Google or email)Deleted automatically, with all their data, after 90 days without the app being opened. One with an active Plus subscription is kept while the subscription is active.
Saved accounts and everything in them (settings, consents)Until you delete the account.
Consent records and purchase recordsFor the life of your account.
Feedback and problem reports sent from the app, with any screenshotsUntil your account is deleted (an unsaved account is deleted after 90 days without the app being opened, as above). If we reply by email, those emails are kept as the next row says.
Emails to our support addressWe delete them 24 months after the conversation ends.
Our record of each data request and how we answered it24 months, as privacy laws require.
Crash reports90 days.
Analytics data (if on)2 months.
Server logs (including IP addresses in request logs)30 days.
Deleted-account marker (account ID only)About one to two hours, until our second clean-up after a deletion has run.
What the ad companies collect for adsUnder each company’s own policies (see Ads); Google’s are in “How Google retains data we collect”.
Purchase records at Apple, Google and RevenueCatUnder their policies and the law (for example, tax and accounting rules).
Data on your deviceUntil you log out, delete your account or delete the app.

We may keep information longer if the law requires it or to resolve a dispute, but only for that purpose.

Deleting your data and your account

  • Delete your account: open Settings › Account › Delete account (Settings › Save your account › Delete account if you never saved your account). For a saved account, you’ll be asked to confirm it’s you. We then delete your account, your settings and consents, and the feedback, problem reports and screenshots linked to your account. A second clean-up shortly after removes anything a device that was still signed in may have saved in the meantime. This can’t be undone.
  • Logging out of an anonymous account deletes it and its data (the app warns you first).
  • Subscriptions are separate. Deleting your account or the app does not cancel Plus. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions.
  • What the ads collected is kept by the ad companies under their own policies (see Ads); deleting your account doesn’t reach it.
  • If you can’t open the app, email privacy@fannoise.app or follow the steps at https://fannoise.app/delete-account. We will verify that the account is yours, and we delete it within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access your personal information and get a copy of it;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • delete your information;
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • data portability: receive the information you gave us in a machine-readable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing; and
  • complain to a privacy regulator where you live.

Most of these you can do yourself with the tools above. For anything else, see How to make a request.

If you live in the United States

Ads, sale and sharing. We don’t sell personal information for money. But in the free version, Google AdMob and the ad companies in Ads collect identifiers (such as your IP address and your device’s advertising identifier) and how you interact with ads, and may use them to personalize the ads you see. Some state privacy laws treat this as “selling” or “sharing” personal information, or as “targeted advertising”, and give you the right to opt out of it. To opt out, use Settings › Ad privacy choices where the app offers it; on iPhone and iPad, don’t allow tracking (or turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking); on Android, reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization. We do not use personal information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Where a state’s comprehensive privacy law applies to us, you may also have the right to know and access, correct, delete and port your personal information; to appeal a decision we make on your request; and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

Sensitive personal information. The only sensitive personal information we collect is your account log-in (email address and password). We use it only to provide the app and keep it secure, so the California “right to limit” does not apply.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. These are browser signals. Our website shows no ads and doesn’t track you, so there is nothing for them to turn off there; in the app, use the opt-outs above.

Appeals. If we decline your request, you can appeal by emailing privacy@fannoise.app with the subject “Privacy appeal.” We will respond within the time your state’s law requires. If you are not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.

California: notice at collection

Where the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to us, this table is our notice at collection. It describes the personal information we collect and have collected in the past 12 months.

How to make a request

  • In the app: use the tools above. Requests made while signed in are verified by your sign-in.
  • By email: privacy@fannoise.app. Tell us what you want and which account it concerns.

To protect your information, we verify that a request comes from the account holder, for example by asking you to send it from the app while signed in, or to confirm access to the email address on the account. An anonymous account can only be identified from the app on your device, so please use the in-app tools for it. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows; we will ask for proof that the agent is authorized.

We respond to requests within 45 days, and may extend this once by 45 days where the law allows, telling you why.

If you live in Türkiye

This section is our notice under Türkiye’s Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (“KVKK”).

  • Data controller: FAMO Connect LLC (see Who we are).
  • What we process, and why: the personal information in Information we collect, for the purposes in How we use your information.
  • How we collect it: electronically, through the app, our servers and the companies in Information from others.
  • Legal grounds: we process your personal data because it is necessary to perform our agreement with you and provide the app, to meet our legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure and working and in offering it free of charge with ads, as long as they don’t override your rights. Where the law requires it, ads use your information only with your consent (Ads).
  • Who receives it: the companies in Who we share information with. They are outside Türkiye, and the ad companies may process information in other countries where they operate (Where your information is stored), so your personal data is transferred outside Türkiye.
  • Your rights under article 11 of the KVKK: to learn whether we process your personal data and, if we do, to ask for information about it; to learn why we process it and whether it is used for that purpose; to know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad it is transferred to; to ask us to correct it if it is incomplete or inaccurate; to ask us to delete or destroy it; to ask that the third parties it was transferred to are told of a correction or deletion; to object to a result against you that comes solely from automated analysis of your data; and to claim compensation if unlawful processing causes you damage.
  • How to apply: use the tools in Tools in the app, or email privacy@fannoise.app. We answer free of charge within 30 days. If we decline your request, or you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu).

If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland

  • Controller: FAMO Connect LLC (see Who we are) is the controller of your personal information. The ad companies in Ads decide for themselves how they use what they collect, as controllers of it.
  • Legal bases: the table in Our reasons for using your information: to perform our agreement with you (your account, purchases and settings), our legitimate interests (keeping the app secure and working, crash reports, answering you, offering the app free of charge with ads), your consent (analytics, and how ads use your information where the law requires it), and our legal obligations. You can object at any time to what we do for our legitimate interests.
  • Transfers: your information is transferred to the United States and the other countries in Where your information is stored. Our service providers protect it there under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses (and their UK and Swiss equivalents) or, where they are certified, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions. To ask for a copy of these safeguards, write to privacy@fannoise.app.
  • Your rights: the rights in Your rights, including to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work, or where you think the law was broken.

How we protect your information

  • Information travels between the app and our servers encrypted (TLS), and our infrastructure provider encrypts it at rest.
  • Security rules allow only you, signed in to your account, to read or change your account’s data. Purchase records can only be changed by our servers.
  • Our servers check that requests come from genuine copies of the app. The one exception is account deletion, which always works, so you can never be locked out of deleting your account.
  • Deleting a saved account requires you to have signed in recently.
  • Secrets are kept in a managed secret store.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

Children

The app is not for anyone under 13 (or the older age the law where you live sets for agreeing to how your information is used), and it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at privacy@fannoise.app and we will delete it.

The app and this website link to other services, such as the App Store and Google Play, and the ads in the app may link to advertisers’ apps and websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
